Family Homestays in Okola
When you visit us in Santiago de Okola, you stay in the home of one of our association's members. Our association is called ASITURSO, short for the Asociation Integral de Turismo de Santiago de Okola. We have 24 member families and currently 12 of them receive travelers in their family compounds.
Each member-family has built or remodeled or otherwise dedicated a space to hosting visitors interested in learning about life in the village. Each compound and the room you stay in is unique and varies in size and comfort, because each family has created them according to their tastes and economic situation. And while they vary, you can be sure that your hosts have done their best and are happy to receive you.
You have your meals with your families, sometimes together and sometimes by yourselves. The highland Aymara are generally quite reserved, so the more you can do to engage with your families, the more likely you are to find yourselves sharing meals and other activities together.
For activities such as your community tour, any workshops you choose to participate and to ascend the Sleeping Dragon (highly recommended!) your host family may provide your guide or someone from one of the member-families may show up to take you around.
